As a New Mexico resident and a West Virginia native, Attorney O’Neal has seen firsthand the horrors of poverty and has made it her life’s mission to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

That mission became more focused after she suffered a severe crushing injury in 2011, which left her in and out of a wheelchair for three years. Having practiced in the area of Social Security and workers’ compensation, at age twenty-nine, she never expected to navigate the system as a claimant. Her accident and the surrounding litigation taught her important lessons in empathy and humility.

Although returning to work while still suffering from disabilities was difficult, her mental perseverance made it possible to thrive in a challenging situation. She was able to take her experiences and use them as fuel to get back to helping others by helping herself. After more than five hundred rounds of physical therapy, she was back on her feet, and twelve years later, she is in great mental and physical shape. She appreciates and is thankful for all she has been through because it has made her a powerful advocate.
